Wanda Aldred 87 of Shoals, Indiana peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023 at Madison Hospital in Madison, Alabama surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born March 1st, 1936 in Pike County, Arkansas to Lewis H. and Eunice E. (Graves) Bashaw.

 

She married George M. Aldred, the most loving and devoted husband, on February 5th 1953 in Warren, Indiana. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sherry Beemblossom (Donald) of Bedford, Indiana; son, George Kevin Aldred (Cheryl) of Washington, Indiana; grandson, Aaron Aldred (Amanda) of Indianapolis, Indiana; granddaughters, Jenna Gonzalez (Pablo) of Madison, Alabama and Katie Craig (Jason) of Newburgh, Indiana; great grandsons Quentin, Milo and Theo Gonzalez, and step great grandchildren Matthew Craig, Andrew and Viridiana Gonzalez.

 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, George Aldred, her parents, and her two sisters, Linda (Ethree) Jones, and Elois (Lois) Drain. 

 

After being raised in Langley, Arkansas, her family relocated to Warren, Indiana where she graduated from Warren High School. Upon graduation she worked at the United Methodist Memorial Home with her mother, Eunice Houser, where she met her husband, George Aldred. Wanda was a homemaker and active in many organizations throughout her life. She enjoyed being a 4-H leader and honorary retired member of Gamma Iota Chapter of PSI IOTA XI. She and George enjoyed being members of the Lions Club, and were founding members of the Lawrence County Rock Club, Martin County Geneonocial Society - co-authoring many genealogy books for Martin County, including documenting all cemeteries and headstones. She was a brilliant Genealogist and an avid bird watcher. Traveling the country with George was one of her greatest joys as they made it to 49 states. Wanda's love of nature was evident by her ability to care for beautiful flower gardens and large vegetable gardens. 

 

Wanda's joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After her husband's passing, she came to live with and care for her three great grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.

 

A visitation service will be held from 2-6 pm on Sunday, May 14th, at Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care at 431 High Street in Shoals, IN 47581. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Monday, May 15th at Shoals United Methodist Church at 502 Main Street in Shoals, Indiana 47581, with visitation from 9 A.M. until the time of service.

 

Memorial Donations may be made in memory of Wanda Aldred to Martin County 4-H Council 2666 US HWY 50 Loogootee, IN 47553 or the Shoals Scholarship Foundation PO BOX 323 Shoals, IN 47581.
