Norma Jean Purkhiser

Norma Jean Purkhiser, 58, passed away on July 25, 2020 at 2:43pm at Daviess Community Hospital. She was born on December 2, 1961 to Mary V. (Abel) Purkhiser and Virgil E. Purkhiser and both preceded her in death. Norma is survived by her cousin and guardian Terri Alcorn, her children, many cousins and friends. Norma was employed as a teacher for several years and also worked at Crane Naval Base. Norma spent most of her life living on their small family farm in Lost River Township. She had spent the last few years living at The Legends in Washington and making many friends along the way. Her passions included playing the piano and writing songs. Norma was strong in her faith and she was proud of where she was from. Norma made friends wherever she went and loved being surrounded by people. She will be missed by many. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 1, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals with burial in Waggoner Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00pm until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Martin County Humane Society, 507 N. Oak St. Loogootee. The Queen-Lee Chapel of the Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the arrangements.
