George M. Aldred age 88, of Shoals, passed away February 20, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born March 22, 1931 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Eldon M. and Nondes M. Aldred. He married Wanda Bashaw on February 5, 1953 in Warren, Indiana and she survives.
George graduated Warren High School, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University and studied at Indiana University. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany and France during the Korean War. He was the Martin County Extension Agent for many years. He was a member of the Shoals United Methodist Church, Shoals V.F.W. The Shoals American Legion, was a longtime member of the Lawrence County Rock Club and was Member of the Shoals Lions Club for over 50 years.
Surviving are his wife Wanda, one daughter Sherry (Don) Beemblossom of Bedford; one son, Kevin (Cheryl) Aldred of Washington; three grandchildren, Aaron Aldred, Jenna Pablo Gonzalez and Katie Aldred; three great grandsons, Quentin, Milo and Theo Gonzalez; and one brother, Daniel Aldred of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Schaffer.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Shoals United Methodist Church with Pastor Marty Evans officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites will be provided by the Shoals American Legion. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals and 11a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church, prior to the funeral service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Martin County 4-H Extension Services or the Shoals United Methodist Church.
