Edward Eugene Sims

Edward Eugene Sims, 89, of Raphine, Virginia, formerly of Shoals, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Blue Ridge Christian Home in Raphine.

Born February 2, 1933 in Shoals, he was the son of Jasper Newton Sims and Lillian Sargent Hagerty. He married Shirlene Baccus on February 13, 1954 and she preceded him in death on April 14, 2003.

Eddie served 23 years in the United States Navy retiring in 1972 in Pensacola, Florida. He then worked and retired from the US Postal Service in 1996. Edward was a fun-loving, charismatic, witty, sociable, and never meeting a stranger kind of guy. He loved talking, eating, playing cards, and sometimes having a drink or two. He was very loved and will be missed by many.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Susan (Diane) Perkins and her husband Barry and Dawn Michelle Smith and her husband Will; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirlene; sons, David Ivan Sims and Douglas Brian Sims; daughter, Donita Lee Overend; and brother, Tony Sims.

Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care in Shoals. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery

The family of Edward Sims would like to express a sincere thank you to all at St. Charles in Jasper and Blue Ridge Christian Home in Virginia during his last few years for making it the most comfortable it could have been. He went through Heaven’s Gates with comfort, peace, and grace.
