David A. Tuszynski age 70 of Mitchell, passed away at his residence on January 6, 2020. He was born November 10, 1949 in New Carlisle, Indiana to Raphael and Irene A. (Bartkowiak) Tuszynski. He married Dorothy S. Hopkins on September 8, 1981 and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2016.
David received his B.S. in Agronomics and Soil Sciences from Purdue University. He was a soil scientist for the Indiana State Dept. of Health, was a soil mapper for the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources and was a member of the Indiana Registry of Soil Scientist and the Association of Professional Soil Classifiers. He hosted many “Playing in the dirt” sessions for the staff of the local Indiana Department of Health. He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his step-children, Richard (Nina) Holt of Williams; Ruth (Mike) Conrad of French Lick and Brenda (Victor) Murray of Jasper; nine grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren; and a cousin, Leo C Szymanowski.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wife, and a sister and brother-in-law, Emily Lucille and Tom Bybee.
Funeral services are 1:00 PM Saturday at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:00 until the time of service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the David Tuszynski Trust established for the college expenses of David's granddaughter, Keira Maddox through the Old National Bank in Bedford, Indiana.
